SHOOT 'EM UP

What you may ask is that all about? And where is it.

It marks the spot of one of the most interesting and daredevil escapades of WWII.

The location is Nazi HQ in Brussels, Belgium, in 1943.

A Belgian pilot in the RAF took off on a lone unauthorised mission and shot up the building, killing senior Nazis and it is claimed up to 30 people in all. He then flew home to safety, but unfortunately died later in the war.

The plaque commemorates his gallant action on 20 January 1943 and incidentally reminds us that this was Gestapo HQ on Louizalaan (Avenue Louise to you).

Albert Folens was working on Louizalaan at this time but was incredibly lucky to be at the far end of it some 2.7 kilometres away.

And the pilot's name?

Captain Baron Jean-Michel de SELYS LONGCHAMPS.

Get the book.

The book is available to readers in Europe here, and to those outside Europe, and particularly in the USA here
